PHOENIX, AZ – President Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer seemed to be getting into a heated debate on Wednesday when the president arrived in Phoenix for the second stop of his post-State of the Union tour.
Obama and Brewer were photographed engaging in what appeared to be a confrontation with Brewer pointing a finger at the president. When Obama got off Air Force One, he was greeted by Brewer, who presented him with a letter, which she explained was an invitation to discuss Arizona’s economic policies and to take a tour of the U.S.-Mexican border.
Allegedly, the bitterness between the pair stems from a Brewer’s publication of a meeting she and the president had at the White House in June 2010.Obama believed Brewer did not accurately describe what really went on at the meeting.
Brewer’s book, “Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure the Border,” depicts the president as “patronizing,” when at first she described the meeting to be cordial.
“He didn’t feel that I had treated him cordially [in the book],” said Brewer. “I said to him that I have all the respect in the world for the office of the president. The book is what the book is. I asked him if he read the book. He said he read the excerpt.”
The awkward confrontation at the airport ended with Obama walking away while Brewer appeared to still be speaking.
