In a story that originally appeared on the Fox News, the Federation for American Immigration Reform compiled a list of states that have more immigrant friendly policies.

Topping their list is California, 24 percent of the nation’s illegal immigrants reside in the state. They also have opted to not be a part of Secure Communities, which requires employer to verify the status of an immigrant through an e-verify system. Most states on their list have chosen not to participate in the Secure Communities act. They also allow immigrant students to pay in-state tuition.

Montgomery Country, Maryland has their Casa de Maryland visitor’s center, which will help immigrants obtain tax numbers so they are eligible to work in the state.

For people who want to be in the states legally, and avoid deportation, they can hire an immigration attorney to help them obtain green cards or apply for citizenship.

In Washington State, unlike most states, having a social security card to get a driver’s license isn’t necessary. A person only needs a utility bill and a signature to get a license.

Illinois and Connecticut also made the list. US Senator Dick Durbin supports the DREAM Act. New Haven Connecticut allows anyone to obtain and identification card regardless of age or immigration status.

Even though these states have liberal immigration policies all immigrants are faced with deportation if caught by ICE agents; retaining an immigration attorney can prevent this from happening. With the assistance of an immigration lawyer thousands of illegal aliens can become naturalized citizens, and become eligible for the benefits of being recognized as a citizen.
