MIAMI, Florida — Immigration authorities have reported the deportation of 19 Haitians that have been convicted of crimes in the United States.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, all 19 Haitians were deported on Friday and were each convicted of at least one serious felony offense.

Since Jan. 20, 26 Haitians have been deported – all of which who have been convicted of a crime. One immigrant was acquitted in a 2007 terror plot, however, was still deemed a threat to national security and was deported as well.

This is the second group of convicted criminal deportees leaving the United States since the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

One of the immigrants that were deported back in January died after suffering cholera-like symptoms in a Haitian jail.

Although these immigrants were convicted of crimes in the United States, immigration activists still contend that it is inhumane to deport foreigners back to the Caribbean because conditions in these countries are unfavorable.
